Fragment Code, "OUDW" was found on an old post on Lost Ninja's blog. If you click the hot link "Snakes on a Plane" it takes you to the new glyph and code. (How this was found remains a mystery.).

The video fragment is of Thomas Mittlewerk saying, "We need not take any more lives than is absolutely necessary. Yes?"

Fragment Code 57

Fragment Code 57 "307L97BDB9" was found today at Rachel's Secret Blog. There is a new “Link” (right sidebar) on the page. Click on the number “57” to be redirected to this image. The code can be found by arranging the flashing letters and numbers, top to bottom, left to right.

The video fragment is of “Dr.” Mittlewerk saying, "...and the bodies of the dead must be brought to this station immediately for full genetic workup."

Fragment code 55 "IRZ7" was found today on the Fuselage with this diary entry under "what's the sitch?":

I just started watching Kim Possible. Loved it!!! It is all about a high school teen, balancing the cheer leading captain position, honor roll, and many more, including saving the world from villains. Of course, all heroes need a wisecracking, clumsy partner. "KP" is no exception. The comic relief of the heroic duo, Ron Stoppable is always there for Kim, though his pet and second best friend Rufus, the hairless mole rat, is always there to help out the duo when the going gets rough. Make sure to check it out!!!

TYSONS CORNER APOLLO CANDY BAR GIVE AWAY (8/25/06)

We had the good fortune to have one of our associates, Annalisa, present at the Tysons Corner (VA.) Apollo Candy Bar give away on Friday. Here is her report and a few photographs from the event.

“What a crazy day! First, let me start by saying that… things were late… So, lots of people were there at 11 but the candy bars didn't show up until 12… There was no banner or anything, but the local ABC was handing out their usual t-shirts. (“ABC News 7 on your side.” I was kind of hoping for a Hanso or Dharma shirt.) Then the Apollo candy bar people showed up (five in all) and quickly handed them out. A lot of people left quickly, but the die-hards hung around…

…But no golden ticket! All the boxes where searched; the Apollo people didn't seem to mind. I spoke to the lead guy and he said that they were given a script to follow (no one I spoke to actually heard it) and they were told that they had to take at least ten pictures per hour until all the bars were gone. I can only assume that they were looking for demographic information on the crowd. And save for two other strollers in line, the group was mostly in their very upper twenty to thirties. Maybe five from the forties range.

All in all, I think it went well. And the chocolate is not all that bad!

The illusive fragment Code # 42 VE5SMC was found today on Lostpedia. This page for user “Rachel Blake” has a hidden message in Morse code (select the open area under User: Rachel Blake). Translated this message says, “WHAT LINKS HERE OX2A” which is “42” and links to User: HACKALLBEER (RACHEL BLAKE). (See bottom of page). Click on User:HACKALLBEER then “42” to find the hidden glyph. Whew! Who found that convoluted code? Speaker, D.J. Dan, Alvar Hanso himself? The video fragment is of Mittelwerk saying "...exactly. You find the best way to get it done... precisely... surgically."

Fragment Code "GZ2I" was found today by hovering your mouse at the bottom of DJ Dan's “Eyes On The Man” link. The video fragment is of the bearded man (Alvar Hanso) saying; "A radio transmitter has been erected on the island."

And fragment Code "ZFTLZAGO014H" was found at Australian TV 7 site. Click "Lost" under “T.V Shows – Entertainment” (near bottom of the page) to reveal this glyph. This video fragment is of the bearded man (Alvar Hanso) saying, "Your research is intended to do nothing less than save the world as we know it."

Fragment Code "0UJ2" (zero you jay two) was found today on the Channel 4 UK website. Towards the bottom of the page is a video labeled "Burn a hole through the heart of the foundation" and the glyph is displayed here. This new video fragment is Mittlewerk saying, "...and they believe we are bringing them the cure."

Apollo Candy Bar Give Away

A somewhat anticlimactic answer was discovered today during the first Apollo Candy Bar give away event in New York. The WhereIsAlvar.com website had been previously guessed at when the Apollo Candy site first went live. While the website has not yet been activated, a few very savvy players have been able to capture images from the site. Whether they are test images or are part of the site remains to be seen. (More on these images later if they prove to be in-game.) Lostpedia was the first to report on the image of the bars. There has been no indication that a so-called "golden bar" has been found but if my name were Veruca Salt...

Fragment Code 29

Evidently, an e-mail was sent Friday to TLEC from Jeff “Doc” Jensen which stated:

"All I know is this:
Beginning at 5 PM, a new clue will be exposed to the light of day in the greater Los Angeles area. It will also be on display outside 11766 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles on Aug. 21, from 6 AM to 9 AM."

A player from Southern California found the fragment code and glyph "ESJ4X6EBNC" on the side of a car located near the 11700 block of Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles this morning. The video fragment is the voice of the bearded man saying, "...all of the support you will need, including regular medicine and food drops will be made in perpetuity."

We assume the “exposed to the light of day” part of the clue was never found.

Also, the Lost Ninja is calling this glyph 29 but we have doubts about that. Has that car been driving around Los Angeles for weeks without anyone noticing the glyph? And why was the clue given to TLEC via e-mail weeks later and not when it was released? And, more importantly, why did Jeff Jensen enter the code on HansoExposed.com? There is definitely something very fishy about this glyph and its a shame the player who tracked it down will not get credit for the find. We've given in to the 29th glyph being ESJ4X6EBNC but reserve the right to rescind.

Fragment Code 45

As reported on August 18th, the newest People Magazine (Aug. 28) carried the same Jeep ad that's been run the past few weeks but this time "TRIBALWARS" has been replaced by "theflashligh" as the code found on the curb. This code was activated today and the video fragment is of Mittlewerk saying, "… without allowing for any more suffering than is absolutely necessary." The glyph has not yet been found.

SPEAKER IN PEOPLE MAGAZINE, AGAIN!

Another Speaker ad was found in the latest edition of People magazine (Aug. 28, Vol. 66, No. 9). It reads:

“ARE THE PRODUCERS OF LOST PULLING THE WOOL OVER OUR EYES?

If you believe computer hacker Rachel "Persephone" Blake they just might be. She exposed The Hanso Foundation's crimes on their own website. Unearthed a plot involving Sri Lanka- a plot The Hanso Foundation would kill to protect. And, at the popular entertainment expo, San Diego Comic-Con, she screamed at LOST's executive producers, accusing them of being in The Hanso Foundation's pockets. After all, THF had paid for commercial spots on ABC during LOST.

The producers, of course, denied any connection to the REAL foundation. LOST is just a television show, they said. Alvar Hanso is fictional- he's not real. And, with that, security escorted Rachel out.

But not before she yelled, "Alvar Hanso IS real...! And, if you want the truth you will go to HANSOEXPOSED.COM!"

I wanted the truth. So, I went.

I discovered that images with strange hieroglyphs and codes are being leaked on the web and in the real world. Each code unlocking a portion of a video begging intriguing questions:

Why was Foundation president Dr. Thomas Werner Mittlewerk on the island of Sri Lanka?

Who is the bearded narrator of the "DHARMA Initiative" film?

What information could this video hold that it's worth killing over?

Can it be? If this is all REAL, will the secret of the LOST "numbers" finally be revealed?

Afraid we're ALL in the dark on that one.

Fragment code # 44 “VACCINE” was found today at RBD.com. During a conversation in an updated ROT thread called, “To tell the sleuth.” the following conversation took place:

BroadBandBeatnik 11:06am Why don't you take a tour and instead of reading into things, listen for a change.
Fiberoptician 11:07am Yeah DSL, listen for a change.

At RBD.com click on the “Take Tour” street sign (lower right corner of page). Click on the drive-in speaker and you’ll hear a sound. This has been interpreted as “VACCINE.” In all honesty, we could not make it out at all. Take the “VACCINE” back over to HansoExposed.com and enter it for the newest video fragment.

FRAGMENT CODE 42 & ROT DISCUSSION (TREVOR)

Fragment Code "44KU2VKQ" was posted today at the Ninja’s website (see quote below) here. The code began working on hansoexposed.com at about 9:15am.

Ninja’s plea:
“I've received word about another possible glyph sighting in Sydney! A ninja wanting to be known only as Mr X emailed me just now to say that, while on board a yacht heading in to dock near the Andrew (Boy) Charlton pool, he thinks he spotted a glyph right down by the water, near some weird scultpture looking stuff.”

ROT Discussion (Trevor)

Rot was updated yesterday and it seems there is discussion concerning sign language and a glyph. Evidently, there is also some information coming in on the Trevor (Nanite) Flikr page. His page was updated with a glyph for "Chocolates". The Chocolates glyph caption is “call tom k yegato”. Head to SubLYMONal.com and type in Chocolates you get “call tom k yegato.” Using the letters “TOM K YEGATO” to the corresponding numbers on a phone, you get the number 866-593-4286. When you call this number, you’ll hear the recording of a man in an English accent saying, “Sod off, I'm watching the tube.” The recording pauses then plays for a total of three times, then in a woman’s voice, “Thank you.” and hangs up. If you go to YouTube and search for "rblake" you'll find a video called "The Chocolate Factory" by CHARLABEELK which is another anagram for RACHEL BLAKE. In the video, there is a sign language translator wearing a glyph t-shirt! Note: TLEC is working on a translation of the sign language on the video and it does not appear to be the same content as that spoken in the video. More to come later…

The Chocolate Factory seems like an homage to Roald Dahl and Willie Wonka and plays straight into the great Apollo Candy give-away next month. Next we’ll see the five-golden tickets and the tour of Oompa-Loompa Land!

It seems that some players who know sign language have interpretted the message to read that Mittelwerk and Hackett had an argument concerning the chemistry of the Apollo Candy bar and that Hackett may be on the run. We'll try to keep this message updated.

The Speaker ad can be found on page 35 and is opposite the Jeep ad (page 36) that has “Tribalwars” on the curb. On the backside of that page (or page 37) is a Verizon Chocolate advertisement. We know a glyph clue is buried somewhere here but have been unable to find it. Post a comment or e-mail us should you find it!

Ninja’s Blog. Click on Celebrity Survivor (at the bottom of the post). You’ll find yourself at the Celebrity Survivor Page. Then Click “Read Full Entry” link and finally the word “LOST” to uncover glyph # 40.

The video fragment is of the bearded man (Alvar Hanso) saying, “…panic. It's always been my belief that we ignore warnings at our own peril. And thus, the D.H.A.R.M.A. Initiative was born.”

Fragment Code "XWZW" was found today in a commercial on E4 (Australian T.V.) and recorded by a commenter over at the Speaker’s website Inside The Experience.The video fragment is of Thomas Mittlewerk saying; "We must be absoultely certain we are hitting precise genetic targets."

FRAGMENT CODE 38 & 39

The one that got away… I was e-mailed this clue on Friday. An observant reader told me that the word “chocolates” could be found on the TiVo remote of the subLymonal ad in the August 11th issue of Entertainment Weekly. It turns out that CHOCOLATES is the 38th Fragment code and we missed it completely. Our apologies to RaynhamGuy for not seeing the connection.

The video is of the bearded man saying, “Whether through nuclear fire, chemical and biological warfare, conventional warfare, pandemic, overpopulation..." A number of images flash across the screen (similar to Psychological Video) including a nuclear detonation, a biohazard sign, a laboratory, an aircraft carrier, and scenes of refugees.

Fragment code 39 A0Y8 was found in Times Square on the ABC Super Sign today. The video is of the bearded man saying, "Founders and masterminds of the DHARMA Initiative. By now, you also know there are many research goals for our joint venture."

D. J. DAN LIVE BROADCAST & FRAGMENT CODE 37

D. J. Dan Live Broadcast

The two-hour D. J. Dan Live Internet Broadcast Marathon last night/this morning ended in a raid by lab-coated members of the Hanso Foundation. Before the interruption, however, we gleaned a few new pieces of information. First, Dan added a new segment to his show called, “Conspiracies in the News,” in which he reveals real stories in American newspapers as conspiracies. Next, our man, the fixer (called Malik by D.J. Dan and Ironman by some others) interrupted the broadcast with a cryptic message for Rachel and then rattled off a series of numbers: 240 249 68 61 37 118 75 233 231 150 36 184 157 51 144 180 253 50 173 30 222 192 13 82 1". Then, again, in a leap of unbelievable intuition someone found the answer to this clue quite quickly. We’ve been told that if you look up these page numbers in Bad Twin and take the first letter of each word of each page you get the message, "I know where he is, I can set it up." We are not sure what this message refers to yet but assume TPTB will certainly feed it to someone soon.

We were mildly disappointed with this broadcast as the quality of questions posed by callers was mediocre at best. We also heard from Speaker, Ninja, Fenris and David from TLEC which screams scripted. And, as usual, did not receive any real information of any value. We suppose at this stage of our Experience this should not surprise us but we also hope for that one bit of information that may answer at least some of our unanswered questions.

Also, in his broadcast D.J. Dan hinted a number of times about a new glyph. And that it would be found in a major U.S. city and that it was taped up to the door of the RadioHarvest.com building in a city that rhymed with “Fresh Air.” A few players located this establishment and copied the glyph which is 4R19Y0UXB6Y. Fragment code 35 "TRIBALWARS" was found in a Jeep advertisement in this week's People Magazine. This video is of the bearded man saying, "Alvar Hanso". As we reported early on the bearded man is, apparently, Alvar Hanso.

Fragment Code "GMIWRLHHNHM" was found on the Valenzetti Equation site in the flash intro. The video fragment is the bearded man saying, "When you have created through science the..." then a few moments of static.

Fragment Code "5BE" was found today on the UK Channel 4 website. There is a cycle of ads on the right hand side of the Channel4 Big Brother site. Go to the “Galleries” Link near the top of the screen and hit “Next>>” to flip through the images. There is a note on this pictoglyph, which reads: “BURN A HOLE THROUGH THE HEART OF THE FOUNDATION.” This is a video fragment of the bearded man saying, "Through your research, you will help..."

Since he's been referencing the X-Files all over the place in his recent posts and Speaker referenced X-Files in People, I'm going to make a prediction that the live webcast will be found by clicking that icon on D.J. Dan's site at the appointed hour and time. Or perhaps that icon will go live and offer another clue to where the broadcast will be aired. However, because that also seems too obvious and easy, I'm probably wrong.

UN-LOCKE THE CODE - Who isn't hunting for glyphs to solve the Rachel Blake puzzle at the Lost Experience these days?

First, a burning question:

According to the fictional story that's being told through The Lost Experience, Lost is just a TV show, and the Hanso Foundation is a real organization. QUESTION: Is this blurring of fantasy and reality pertinent to the core mysteries of Lost? Or is it just a creative conceit that has no relevance beyond The Lost Experience?

Hopefully, I'll have an official answer soon. In the meantime, here's DOC JENSEN'S INSTA-THEORY: Rachel Blake, TLE's intrepid heroine, is either bogus or being duped and used by the Hanso Foundation. Either way, her function in Hanso's conspiracy is simply this: to attract a worldwide audience. (You know: just like an ad-supported TV show or certain Internet amusements.) She's a Pied Piper, and her alluring music is intrigue. After all, doesn't everyone love a good mystery? (It has certainly worked for Lost.)

What is Hanso planning to do with the global following that Blake is cultivating? Here's my prediction: In the final act of The Lost Experience, Blake will finally flush the elusive Alvar Hanso out into the open. My guess is that Hanso will agree to participate in a live interview with Blake under the pretense of "setting the record straight." But the interview is a Trojan horse. Literally. The broadcast will be embedded with a subliminal message — perhaps the Numbers; perhaps a new sequence of Numbers — that's designed to do something to us. Maybe unlock our full human potential? Maybe bring instant enlightenment? (See: the "Instant Karma" assertion of Doc Jensen's Jingle Theory of Lost). Within seconds of flashing the subliminal signal, the interview will terminate, bringing a strange, abrupt end to TLE (think: the creepy last scene of The Blair Witch Project), and leaving us all to wonder: What the hell just happened? The final words we'll hear will be Alvar telling Rachel: "It's time to go home, daughter."

Second, an answer to YOUR burning question:

Last week's interview with Rachel Blake was LEGIT. I posed the questions and got authentic answers. Consider the Q&A officially "part of the game," if you like. Put it this way: My interview with Rachel was as "real" as the code-ensconcing glyph that accompanied last week's column. Hope that clears things up for some of you.

As for all of the Jim/Pam fans who've read the previous paragraphs and feel completely well, lost, allow me to explain:

The Lost Experience — a Internet-based "alternate reality game" about a hipster Nancy Drew named Rachel Blake and her efforts to expose the sinister secrets of the Hanso Foundation — has entered an important new phase.

Recently, Blake went to Sri Lanka and recorded a secret Hanso Foundation meeting, during which a film was shown explaining the origins of the Dharma Initiative. Blake has sliced her video document into about 75 little bytes, and now we have to reassemble the film by finding codes that have been scattered across the Web and entering those codes at a website called hansoexposed.com.

When I asked Rachel why she feels she needs to make this so gosh darn difficult — can't she just post the video in its entirety online? — this is what she said:

"If I didn't hide it all over the Web and bury it on corporate [sites], those (expletive)ers would wipe it out. Only chance I have at getting the truth out there is 'gamesmanship.'"

Glyph hunters are invited to share their passwords with fellow glyph hunters. If you want some of mine, send me an e-mail and I'll share what I've collected so far (I've got 20 of the available 20 released as of this writing)... or you can visit this column every Tuesday and I'll recap the info contained in the bits of film and speculate about what they are all adding up to.

But before I do, I encourage you to play the game. Really, it's fun. And it even gives you a nice buzz of smug. "Hey, look at me, I'm a cutting-edge Web guy/gal!'' If you're not in the market for cheap ego boosts, then let the promise of Big Revelations (the Numbers! the DHARMA acronym! Alvar Hanso!) inspire you. Finally, the tricky/trippy/trying experience that has been The Lost Experience is delivering the geeky goods. And what's even better, cheating is allowed! Here's my Glyph Hunting for Dummies suggestion:

1. Set up a glyph-collecting account at hansoexposed.com. It's quick and free and there are NO ADS.

2. Let two killer Lost fan sites — thelostexperience.com or thelostexperienceclues.com — do the glyph hunting for you. They seem to have a knack for finding these things within, like, seconds of their release. Visit one or both of the sites each morning, and scribble down the info they've discovered.

3. Click over to hansoexposed.com; input the codes; inspect and view.

Since there's going to be about 75 of these bits of film, and they are being released out of sequence, my advice would be to arrange them as you go. It's gonna be even more complicated if you wait until the very end.

Or you can just let me explain it for you. Here's what I've pieced together (literally) so far:

— Presumably, the film opens with shady Hanso Foundation exec Dr. Thomas Mittelwerk addressing a group of unseen people.

— Presumably, the group of unseen people are shown a film — a Dharma orientation film. Actually, the mother of all Dharma orientation films.

— The copyright date is 1975. That's five years after the creation of the Dharma Initiative, per the brief history provided by ''Dr. Marvin Candle'' in the Station Three orientation film, and five years before the creation of the Pearl and Swan orientation films, per their copyright dates. This assumes, of course, that the information in those later orientation films is accurate — including their dating.

The film is narrated by an as yet unnamed man with a dark beard and a light accent, probably Danish. It is possible that he could be Alvar Hanso, circa 1975. So far, ''Mr. Beardy,'' as fansites have dubbed him, has explained that:

* In the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, the United States and the Soviet Union collaborated with the United Nations on a secret project.

* The DHARMA acronym stands for Department of Heuristics and Research on Material Applications. (Head over to wikipedia.org for a provocative tutorial on Heuristics.) Mr. Beardy adds that Dharma also means ''The one true way.''

* There is also mention of Dharma cofounders Gerald and Karen DeGroot and a ''secret facility...''

There's more — including a reference to an ''equation'' that was ''buried by those who commissioned it'' — but those are the chunky morsels gleaned from the few fragments so far released. DOC JENSEN TIP: Check out valenzettiequation.com, an official TLE website whose purpose in the game has not yet been made clear. Check out the passages about how the U.S. and the Soviet Union, working with the U.N., financed the work of mathematician Enzo Valenzetti in the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis. One would have to assume that the Valenzetti Equation is the project referred to in the film.

THE DA VINCI CODE THEORY OF LOST

All this glyph hunting and code breaking definitely has me feeling like Robert Langdon — which reminds of how much Lost resembles everybody's favorite heretical conspiracy theory thriller. Consider:

O, Draconian Devil! O, Devilish Digits!
In Dan Brown's blockbuster novel, the first riddle that symbologist Robert Langdon has to crack is the relevance of the legendary Fibonacci sequence to various other riddles. On Lost, we have the Numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42), a mysterious set of integers linked to various other mysteries (Hurley's bad luck, the Hatch, the computer). Could the Numbers be the Valenzetti Equation? If so, then check out that aforementioned Valenzetti website, especially the part that states where Valenzetti went to school: the Fibonacci State Institute of Advanced Sciences.

Follow The (Cultural) Clues!
In The Da Vinci Code, clues to an elaborate mystery/conspiracy are found in notable works of art like Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Similarly, Lost has referenced novels like The Turn of the Screw, The Third Policeman, and now Charles Dickens' Our Mutual Friend to illuminate (albeit obliquely) character arcs and aspects of its mythology. (And what could be more scavenger hunt-ish than The Lost Experience, which has fans searching the Web for pop culture sites?)

Encrypted Cartography
In The Da Vinci Code, Langdon must crack the code to a lockbox known as a cryptext that contains the location of the Holy Grail. The corollary in Lost is the Map, showing the locations of various Hatches on the Island and cluttered with annotations describing the functions and history of the Dharma Initiative. But getting to actually see this map is as tricky as cracking Langdon's cryptext, since it's painted on a mysterious retractable wall and only visible in black light. (By the way, this current glyph-hunting phase of The Lost Experience — pure cryptext craziness.)

''The Man'' Is Lying To You. (Or Is He?)
In Da Vinci and Lost, anything that is presented as ''official information'' should be regarded with skepticism. In Da Vinci, it's the accepted history of the Catholic Church. In Lost, it's the purported history of The Dharma Initiative provided by Dr. Marvin Candle (or is that Dr. Mark Wickmund?) in the Swan and Pearl Orientation Films.

It's The Themes, Stupid!
Both Da Vinci and Lost share a central concern: the conflict between faith and reason. And both use convoluted conspiracy theories as the means to present criticisms of blind trust and zealous belief. (In Da Vinci, it's the Vatican's efforts to suppress the truth about Mary Magdalene; in Lost, it's the myth of the Button, per the story spun by the Orientation Film.) It should be noted that in both Da Vinci and Lost, these sketchy, poorly substantiated and seemingly implausible conspiracy theories are essentially proven to be true. In Da Vinci, Langdon finds reason to believe in the Magdalene heresy after realizing that ''The Holy Grail'' is buried in the Louvre. And in Lost, Locke realizes that the Button really does have a function (and a terrifying one at that) when he discovered in the season finale that the computer wasn't useless after all but was actually regulating the fluctuations of the Island's unique electromagnetic energy. (I think.)

I know what you might be saying: ''Cute, Doc Jensen. A neat parlor trick — but how does it really illuminate Lost?''

A fair criticism. But I have an answer. See, The Da Vinci Code Theory of Lost is actually the appetizer before the big meal — an exciting new Big Theory that I think represents the closest I have ever come to cracking the Lost code, and I dare say it might represent the most reasonable theory I've read anywhere. A bold statement, I know. But in the next couple weeks, I'll prove it to you. I call it the ''TV Is Good For You Theory of Lost.''
