Hanso Foundation Call Center Update

I tried to dial the Hanso Foundation number this evening and the following recorded message was played: "99-4 The number you have dialed is invalid or is blocked from your area code, please check the listing and try your call again." This message repeated a number of times and then went into busy signal mode. Are they revamping the Call Center? Or just forgot to pay their Verizon bill?

The 2nd Faceless Man

There is a new Persephone message on the Press Release: "+ 1 "

We used Persephone's code to add plus one to the previous hole2 clue to locate the following site: http://hole3.thehansofoundation.org. All we could find was a generic placeholder for a missing picture. The source code reveals that the picture name is supposed to be "t9agen75.gif". If we use the same number and letter substitution as before we find the letters "tiagenge." (tagen + 9 = i, 7 = g and 5= e) Could this be an anagram for "engage it"? (Thanks to Dave Conley for the heads up on this.) Evidently, someone also caught the screencap image before it was removed from the page and posted it to the Lost Experience Clues site (image below).

This does not look like the same person as in the "hole2" image and it is not a different type of image of "hole2" as that image shows a man with a coat and tie. Somehow, though this person looks familiar... like we have seen him somewhere before. Does anyone recognize or know who this is? Any luck manipulating the picture for a better image?

Update: Some players are reporting that they can see the words "Save Me" embedded in the left eye of the image after playing with the color pallet. Who might possibly need saving?

The Real World Strikes Again

And on Sunday in the New York Times recreation section of the paper was found the following:

"14 BAD TWIN, by Gary Troup. (Hyperion, $21.95.) A private investigator faces danger as he helps a man search for his irresponsible missing brother."

So it seems that a fictional novel, written by a fictional author about characters from a fictional television show have made the top 20 best sellers book review list in America. Amazing!

MATHEMATICAL FORECASTING INITIATIVE - UPDATE

The MFI page has changed. Click on the MFI Logo, which replaces the graph chart, at the lower right hand corner of the page. A map of the world will appear with the logo again found in the center of the world. Click on the logo. A group of symbols around the world will appear. Google search the references listed or the World Fact Book for the factoids needed to fill in the blank information and complete this puzzle. Click on the dollar sign in the USA and a pop up box will appear. The US GDP is 42,000. Type 42000, 42,000 or 42.000 and hit enter. The dollar sign will then radiate bright blue. Click on the person in central Africa. A pop up block for the Sudan will appear asking for the population growth rate, which is 2.55. Type 2.55 or 2,55 and hit enter. The person will radiate bright blue again. Click on the syringe in Italy and the pop up box will ask for the HIV death rate. Type 10.4 or 10,4 and hit enter. Again, the blue glowing. A circle will appear directly south of India and east of Africa. Click on the circle and it will take you to the following Peter Thompson memo:

The memo reads: “crucial that we do not appear to be complicit in your use of our population model to predict the growth of your tribal enemies – especially if you intend on using our predictions to launch a pre-emptive strike. We must have plausible deniability.”

When the memo shows the words “The Hanso Foundation, starting wars so that you don’t have to”, Persephone is heard vocalizing the words. Also, somewhere in the middle of western Asia or Russia, there is a link that is hidden that states in the pop up box: “.noitadnuof eht fo eeyolpme na saw ehS” which is “She was an employee of the foundation” spelled backwards. You can hear the sound of the electromagnet when this hot spot is clicked. And somewhere else I noticed the image of the Doctor from the Mental Health Appeal and the Joop background video. Note: This comes up when answering the Italy puzzle pop up box. I also think that there may be more here then is apparently evident and will continue to search and post any new updates. And there is, if you watch this screen long enough (before clicking on the circle) you will see the Dharma Initiative employee outline in the foreground flash quickly across the screen.

Note: This is the first indication that the Hanso Foundation is involved in more than white collar crime. Most of the executives have been implicated in some type of crime or another but this is the first time that a larger political agenda has been hinted at. Starting wars? Well, Alvar Hanso did make his fortune in weapons.

THE HANSO FOUNDATION TV COMMERCIAL (#1)

"Paid for by ABC" is seen in the opening sequence of the commercial.

During the airing of ABC's LOST episode "Two for the Road" on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006 a commercial for the Hanso Foundation was also shown. This commercial began with a line drawing of Leonardo Da Vinci’s self portrait, then Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man (my photo on my blog profile page, what a coincidence), a video of the Space Shuttle taking off, a DNA strand, Alvar Hanso himself (out of focus and in the distance), and then cuts to the above scene. The commercial voice-over audio states:

“Since the dawn of time man has been curious. Imagining all that is possible. The Hanso Foundation: Reaching out to a better tomorrow. Discover the experience for yourself. Call 1-877-HANSORG”

The voice-over is that of Carleton Cuse recognized from the Official Lost podcast.

I tried calling the number many times last night but always with the same message “Call Failed: Network Busy.” And I also notice that the Hanso Foundation web site is back up and running at: http://www.thehansofoundation.org/

1-877-HANSORG (877-426-7674) I did get into the system but had a bad connection at the time and will update this section later. However, I can tell you that once you dial the number you have a few options. You can learn more about the Hanso Foundation (press 1) or go into Alvar Hanso's voice mail (press 2), and other Hanso employees. If you pick Hanso's voice mail you get a message from a woman asking where he is and a Danish language message that mentions Geronimo Jackson. I'll try to keep up with this as we go and update accordingly. This is the beginning of the summer LOST game. Much, much more to come…

The Hanso Call Center (1-877-HANSO) message under Option 1 General Information has changed again. The Danish? language message is now different (longer). The ending portion is identical to the old version but the beginning has new added information. Can someone translate? Also, a new Sprite commercial has been added.

THE HANSO FOUNDATION CALL CENTER (Continued)

Option 1: Gives us our first clue and password.

Option 2: Tells us that Alvar Hanso is missing.

Option 3: (Note: The first listen through on this option sounded like the receptionist said "Thomas Skinner Mittlewerk." Other players say that do not hear this but I do each time I listen.) Dr. Mittlewerk will be back in three weeks. I will check his message again on Wednesday, May 24th, 2006. I think we may find another message then. Paik Heavy Industries and Widmore Corporation are mentioned and a confidential information line and a project manual for hotline access instructions. Sounds like more passwords and clues to come on this.

Option 4: Hugh McIntyre will be back in two weeks. I will check this message again on Wednesday, May 17th, 2006. Again, I think we’ll get another message then. McIntyre mentions the Korean Offshore Project and Joop the 105-year-old orangutan. A message from, presumably, Thomas Mittlewerk mentions the Accelerated Remote Viewing Training Facility and a message from Darla mentions Sri Lanka. Hugh's cell phone number is 206-861-5017.

Update: I called Hugh's cell phone number today (May 9th, 2006) and received the message, "The number you dialed is not a working number. Please check the number and dial again. Message 3G3TC1."

Update: (May 12th, 2006) It has been reported in some of the forums that e-mails that were sent to hugh.mcintyre@thehansofoundation.org are being answered! Could the next major clue come from direct from the Hanso communications officer himself? Try sending him an email and see what you get!

Option 5: Irene, Peter Thompson’s secretary, begins to mention the Korean Offshore Project but he interrupts her. He is a bit angry and also mentions Paik Heavy Industries and Widmore Corporation.

After another Hanso Foundation commercial aired tonight the phone line was impossible to get into. However, after redialing a zillion times I was able to get through. It seems there are no new clues in the call center tonight. I will keep trying as I am certain that we will be receiving many more clues from the call center.

Because there was only one place to “sign in” we decided to try the following:
At the “Newsletter (Sign up)” page we entered a sign-in name and the system prompted: “Can you read this message?” When we entered the word “yes” and then “enter” another message appeared which read: “Hello, this is Persephone, what is the password?”
From the Hanso Foundation phone number Option 1 (see above), we can hear Persephone talking. She says: "If you can hear me, I repeat, if you can hear me, whatever you do don’t listen to their lies. This is Persephone. I don’t have much time. None of us do. If you want to know the truth about the Hanso Foundation, the real story, then remember: A line pulled tight enough will always snap under the breaking strain. Use that password on the website. Breaking strain. They’re coming!”

The password then is “breaking strain.”

From clue above enter "breaking strain" as the password and hit enter. This will get you into a message center in which Persephone welcomes you to the Dharma and leaves you this message.

Press Release: "2 " - The Faceless Man

The following clue was revealed and provided by the good folks at the Lost Experience Clues website at http://thelostexperienceclues.blogspot.com/
We know that Persephone sent a new message yesterday (Press Release) at http://persephone.thehansofoundation.org/ and that the message was simply the number 2. We tried using the number, plus many variations (see above), to access passwords, logins, etc. It seems that a partial answer comes from the combination of the “mouse hole” clue and the “number 2” clue. By visiting http://hole2.thehansofoundation.org/ you will see an unknown individual’s picture (in a washed/manipulated state). By the way, the file name is "q9als2002.gif." There is some speculation that this is Dr. Marvin Candle (Mark Wickman, Whittman) and there is a side-by-side photo of him at the Clue website. However, I personally do not believe that this is a photo of Dr. candle. So, who is he? A new character, perhaps? I suspect we won’t have to wait long to find out. I looked at the names of Hanso employees at the Parent Directory and none that have first initial "a" and last name "s."

If the past few weeks formulae hold true then tomorrow and Wednesday should hold an entire world of additional clues and changes to the Hanso Foundation website. Of course, I could be wrong but I am working on assumptions from past experience. I also think that the Lost Experience itself will need to find a new way to communicate to us, as the Hanso commercials will soon end with the season finale. And, since the finale is two hours long I wonder if we’ll see two commercials? Now that would be interesting. We have found the various “Commercial” clues prior to their airings and will most likely continue to do so.

If you take the numbers and changed them to the alphabetic (i.e. qNINEalsTWOTHOUSANDTWO) this can then be anagrammed to "Hanso quit, now LOST, wanted." Is the faceless man Alvar Hanso? BIG Question Mark on the Hole2 clue..... At the time this clue was first revealed it seemed rather strange to me. I thought at the time that it felt fed, as if no one had actually worked to come up with this answer. It was as if it just suddenly appeared from nowhere. Therefore, I am considering this an iffy clue, at best, and until it is substantiated by some kind of link, pointer or descriptor inside the game will consider it only a "possible" clue.

It seems a clever player, our own Dave Conley, has found the following:

He says: “I've attached what appears to be pictures inside the dove picture. This is a cropped screen capture of the original from the Hanso website's Mission Statement page. I used this image as a basis for progressive modifications. The first step was inverting the image, which really brought out the picture of the girl. If you look closely, you can barely make out headshots of at least 2 other people beneath her. What looks like a necklace might also be a photograph, but my software is too limited to pull out any details aside from the fact it might be a man looking toward the camera with some sort of light colored beam/bar cutting across horizontally. The second step was to enlarge the photo to make the images easier to make out. The third step was to stretch the width by 40% to give the woman normal proportions. Finally, I added my comments to the picture.”

In the following paragraphs there are a number of missing words. I assume that they will become important later on in the game but wanted to point it out now so that it does not get lost later on.

ABC is trying to overwhelm me… a whole bunch of new information, clues and websites on the same night as an episode airs. Not to mention a computer melt down and e-mail problems. Arggh! Oh, well they can only do it once more this season. Where to begin?

Electromagnetic Research Initiative

If you visit this active project you will see something very new. Inside the photograph of the earth as seen from a satellite you will notice that an x/y coordinate is now visible on the screen. You will also notice that the photo’s caption which read: “Early morning hours of October 28, 2003” now reads “Early morning hours of October 62, 9291”. This may be another clue.

By lining up your cursor to the coordinates: X:629 and Y:291 (the numbers from the date caption give the coordinates) you will see that the mouse pointer turns into a finger (a hot link). Click on this spot. The math equation will bubble out and a black hole will appear in the middle of the equation. Click on it.

The X/Y coordinates now have two digit decimal place (significant? did they always and I just didn't notice?) May 19th, 2006. Update: The above screen cap shows the X:Y coordinates with two decimals but looking today it does not have the decimal places. Hmm.....

You will be redirected to http://www.letyourcompassguideyou.com/ or as the title states “Permissum Vestri Complector Rector Vos” in Latin.

This is an interesting page as it depicts a large compass with arms that rotate with your mouse. Observations: Inside the circle is the Hanso Foundation logo and behind that is a faint photo of the woman in the Hanso Foundations opening splash screen (see above). Also, seen inside the compass is the Dharma number that we see on all the food: DI9FRRTR731 (below). Rotate your mouse around the screen until you find a screen with numbers and degrees on it. The 108 degree listing is hot (middle-lower left section of screen).

It has come to our attention that a new strain of meningococcal disease has been reported in the villages of the United Republic of Tanzania. This strain is particularly alarming in that it has successfully breached the simian/homo sapiens barrier.

As the enclosed documentation and correspondence demonstrate, we have repeatedly asked the Executive Board of The Hanso Foundation for assistance in determining the possible correlation between the outbreak of this transgenic disease and the research being conducted on primates in their Experimental Station in Zanzibar.

The Hanso Foundation clock will change from the time to the word "OB:EY". When this happens "OB:EY" becomes a hot link. Clicking on it takes you to a strange website: www.subLYMONal.com where a set of six T.V. sets circle around the word OBEY.

Click on the word "OBEY" in the center of the screen. Click on the TV's in the following order. (Hotlink) T.V. # 1 = 4 clicks, T.V. # 2 = 8 clicks, T.V. # 3 = 15 clicks, T.V. # 4 = 16 clicks, T.V. # 5 = 23 clicks, T.V. # 6 = 42 clicks. A screen with a smaller version of the six TV screen appears and the spooky LOST theme music plays. Then a single green screen appears which flashes the following: "Code:" then "Heir Apparent" and the words "Sublymonal Message Uncoded".

The hot link below this message takes you back to the executive Bios screen on the Hanso Foundation website. If you click on Mittlewerk you see a login space in the center of his bio. Enter "Heir Apparent" into the login box. This screen changes to a dark screen with a hallway (which resembles a hospital). There is a wheelchair in the left hand corner of the screen and a woman facing away in a hospital gown. When you click on the woman she turns around and the camera zooms in on the woman (but it happens so fast that I could not get a good look).

This document is a tuition document from Caltech. There is a red XXX splash and a blue XXX splash on the page. The red splash covers the words, "Gary Troup knows too much" and the blue splash covers the words, "He must be silenced." There is also a red pencil mark under "Tuition and Fee Schedule" which is reminiscent of Persephone's markings on the GWC documents.

Clicking on this and the following message appears: "Caltech has no record of this guy in their alumni database. He's never made a tuition payment. Does he even have a college degree? Why does he call himself a doctor? Of what. Who is this clown?" Persephone's voice can be heard stating: "Why does he call himself a doctor? Of what. Who is this clown?"

The Sprite Commercial and Mittlewerk:
Sprite's motto "Obey your thirst!" and the "lime and the lemon make LYMON" show prominently in this clue in the OB:EY hot link and the subLYMONal website.

It looks like this particular clue is a little hard to decode. Since it was first revealed I have yet to see anyone with an answer to what is behind the red double bars.

Of course, nobody knows, not even this Persephone chick who's hacking the website, and just the same, nobody knows where that guy went in that crowd. Now, what we do know is that yesterday's show made a stink. My source on the hill says he hasn't seen senators this pissed off since the Kennedy suicide. And all of a sudden, the plug has been pulled from the weapons program. WE SHUT DOWN THE MAN! And why? Because our Hanso Foundation, our insert name of evil corporation here, they heard my interview, and this last bit made their blood run cold. Roll the tape!"

D.J. Dan: "So, uh, then what are the possible applications of this research?"

Caller: "Pretty much, we were asked to simulate an electromagnetic pulse strong enough to knock a space-borne body out of its recurring orbit."

The Executive Bios page has a new addition. Hugh McIntyre’s photo is grayed-out and a questions mark replaces the photo (is he in the Pearl Hatch?). Click on Hugh’s old picture. There is also a log-in box now seen on this page. Enter our clue from the Parent Directory pages of the Compass pages (“the mouth piece”) and we begin to get a better picture of Hugh. The screen begins to drip and the words “deeply committed to family values” are highlighted in yellow. Click on the yellow highlight and we get to see the real Hugh McIntyre.

Jimmy Kimmel: But first, earlier tonight millions of loyal viewers found a few answers to fit in the puzzle that is the show Lost. But the Hanso Foundation remains a mystery. No one knows what it is. No one knows why they are running commercials on ABC. Are they running the island there? To answer those questions, we actually got in contact with the Hanso Foundation spokesman. He’s the Communications Director. His name is Hugh McIntyre and he’s coming to us live from Copenhagen and Hanso Foundation Headquarters. Hello there Mr. McIntyre. Thank you for taking time to do this.

Hugh McIntyre: My pleasure. Good morning Mr. Kimmel.

Jimmy Kimmel: Did you get a change to see the big finale tonight?

Hugh McIntyre: I assume you are talking about Lost?

Jimmy Kimmel: No, no actually, I was talking about American Idol. You know, of course, Lost. Do you watch Lost?

Hugh McIntyre: You know actually I’ve seen it once and I found it extremely confusing.

Jimmy Kimmel: You did? O.K. well, it’s interesting then because why is it that you are running commercials during Lost?

Hugh McIntyre: Well, the writers and producers of Lost have decided to attaché themselves to our foundation and actually it was our best way that we felt to communicate to people who have seem to believe that we have something to do with Lost and let them know its not true.

Jimmy Kimmel: You have nothing to do with program at all?

Hugh McIntyre: No, we are a non-governmental organization. We’ve been established for forty some years. Ah, we have projects all over the world. You know, its very flattering that the Lost writers and producers have decided to attaché themselves to us and use us as part of their mythology. But its not true.

Jimmy Kimmel: What does the Hanso Foundation do? What is your role?

Hugh McIntyre: Well, we have six major projects around the world. At the center of that is the WWPDP, which is the World-Wide Wellness Prevention and Development Project. It is a non-governmental project just like many that is involved in projects in third-world countries, working with both government agencies and private entities.

Jimmy Kimmel: What about the Dharma Initiative? This is something that we hear about on Lost. What is your involvement with the Dharma Initiative?

Hugh McIntyre: Well the Dharma Initiative was cancelled in 1987. We cut off its funding.

Jimmy Kimmel: Really! Then you are not involved in it?

Hugh McIntyre: Um, well, it was a real project but for some reason, as I’ve said before. The writers of Lost have decided to attach themselves and create us as part of their mythology. Its just not true, the way they are coloring the project.

Jimmy Kimmel: What was the project? What was the Dharma Initiative?

Hugh McIntyre: Well, frankly, because of proprietary interests with the technology I can’t talk about that specifically.

Jimmy Kimmel: What is Dharma? Is that like a persons name? Like Dharma and Greg, Dharma?
Hugh McIntyre: I believe that was Jenna Elfman.

Jimmy Kimmel: Yes, where does, I mean, how do you guys make money, at the Hanso Foundation?

Hugh McIntyre: Well, we’re very fortunate because unlike other NGO’s who have to go through funding processes at least once or twice a year we are the benefactor of a very wealthy man.

Jimmy Kimmel: Alvar Hanso?

Hugh McIntyre: Yes.

Jimmy Kimmel: And where is he? He’s not been seen for a few years, true?

Hugh McIntyre: Well, he is an extremely busy man. Has a lot of interests around the world. Has many homes. Travels the world continually…

Jimmy Kimmel: Have you met him? Have you met Alvar Hanso?

Hugh McIntyre: Well, of course.

Jimmy Kimmel: You have? Right! And you also have an orangutan names Joop that is a hundred and five years old?

Hugh McIntyre: The Life Extension Project has to do with developing technologies and medicines that can extend human life.

Hugh McIntyre: If you go to that actual website you’ll see that the orangutan is not Joop. Those are actually comedic videos. I don’t know who created them. It seems to me that the person created that website to sell SaveJoop t-shirts. It has nothing to do with us.

Jimmy Kimmel: Your company, does it have anything to do with why you built hatches all over the island?

Hugh McIntyre: I assume you’re talking about the island in Lost?

Jimmy Kimmel: Yes, I’m talking about the island in Lost.

Hugh McIntyre: Ok, I don’t know why they’ve done that. That’s a creation of fiction. That show is a creation of fiction.

Jimmy Kimmel: Yes, you look actually nothing like the photograph that, on the website, that has your name attached to it.

Hugh McIntyre: That’s true.

Jimmy Kimmel: Why is that?

Hugh McIntyre: Well, that photograph that was on there was actually the photograph of my predecessor. Since I’ve come on to work with the foundation one of my duties has been to upgrade the website and that’s just been completed in the last month or so and in doing so my webmaster put up that previous photograph of the person in my job.

Jimmy Kimmel: There is someone named Persephone who has been hacking your website.

Hugh McIntyre: Yes.

Jimmy Kimmel: And has been putting things on the website. Unusual things. Who is this person and why is she doing this?

Hugh McIntyre: I don’t know who she is and I don’t know why she’s doing it. I can just tell you that fortunately she is more mischievous than damaging, though her acts are criminal.

Jimmy Kimmel: Why do you say they are criminal?

Hugh McIntyre: Well, when you go in and peruse peoples personal things and put up thing on a site that’s not true about them… She’s defamed my colleagues. She defamed myself. She said things about my family all of which are untrue.

Jimmy Kimmel: There’s a video of you having some sort of, what looks like a relationship with a women who is not your wife.

Hugh McIntyre: Well, if you look closely that’s not me.

Jimmy Kimmel: That is not you?

Hugh McIntyre: No, it is not me. And it is easy to lob shots from the darkness at somebody instead of standing in front of them and making their accusations. Clearly, this person, weather a woman or a ten year old, or what, is a criminal?

Jimmy Kimmel: Well, thank you Mr. McIntyre.

My thoughts: Contrived? Scripted? Hokey? All of the above!! Boy, was I disappointed in this interview. The actor playing Hugh was not familiar with the Hanso Foundation and it's projects and the whole thing felt like a script from Saturday Night Live. Lost was mentioned a number of times which only made things worse. Why did they feel the need to interject the real world into the ARG? It just does not make sense. And why the hokey interview when everything else was so polished? (i.e. Hanso Site, Carreers, etc.). Perhaps they are misleading us?

Executive Bios – Peter Thompson

Go to the bio of Peter Thompson by clicking on his photograph. Large red letters appear over his photo. The letters are” VOSRLUGIT”. With a bit of alphabetic maneuvering we find “survivor guilt” is the answer. But where to put it? If you float your mouse pointer under the photo of Mr. Thompson you’ll find a hidden text box. Typing the password and hitting enter dissolves the screen and allows you access to some very odd documents from three different companies and an accompanying environmental photograph of interest. Each of these photographs has the faint appearance of a Dharma employee in the background (dressed in coveralls or a lab coat). Could it be Marvin Candle/Mark Wickman? The screens are of photographs of Peter Thompson’s desk and they are similar in style (clandestine spy-camera stuff) to the photos we see in the GWC letters & the Caltech college tuition transcript photos found previously in the game.

Nuclear
This handwritten document reads:
“2001 was in the process of making sure the citizens of southern Georgia got their glow-on by bullyragging the local courts into ignoring widespread protests against a nuclear power plant when he was struck by cancer – look like Alvar Hanso saved the wrong guy!” Click on the underlined word “guy” to continue.

There is a hidden document that flashes when the photo image appears and a few words that also flash quickly across the screen. Subliminal images abound here. With video capture and slow motion the only word I could make out was "his" and a partial word "do....". I'm still working on this. (see May 22nd, entry for answer)

LOGIN BOX

So far no log-in information exists for the login box at the bottom of the Hanso Foundation website. HANSO / COMMERCIAL SPONSERS

The Hanso Foundation shows a relationship with many reality-based commercial entities including, Verizon, Monster.com and Sprite, among others. Look for them to play prominent roles in the game later this summer.

VERIZON
All the voice mail message services in the Hanso Foundation call center are through Verizon. I assume we'll see more of this later on.

MONSTER.COM
Monster.com runs a commercial during two of the options at the Hanso Foundation Call Center. And again, I think this may play a role in the game later.

SPRITE
Sprite has been associated with The Lost Experience Alternate Reality Game many times since the OB:EY clue was revealed:
1. As noted above: Sprites motto is "OBEY you thirst", and the clock changes to OB:EY on every Lost number minute. (04, 08, 15, etc.)

I received the book today but have not had a chance to read it. The cover reads: "Gary Troup - His Final Novel Before Disappearing on Oceanic Flight 815" and it is a full novel. However, the copyright page states: "Note To Reader: This is a work of fiction, all the names, characters, and incidents are used fictitiously; the author himself is a work of fiction"

The back cover states: "In Bad Twin, Gary Troup spins a mesmerizing tale of mystery and suspense, weaving clues throughout the story that are far more consequential than they seem. Touching on themes of good versus evil, purgatory, and redemption, Bad Twin shows how fate can turn when all seem lost."

Also, "Gary Troup" is an anagram of Purgatory, which has been flat out refuted by the producers as what the island may be.

While examining the front cover of "Bad Twin" (see above) I noticed something unusual. The name of the title is written in the sand with a stick, which can be seen lying on the beach under the title. The shadow cast by the stick in the sand definitely shows the letter "S". So, does that mean the book's real title is "Bad Twins"? Presumably then, both Cliff and Zander Widmore are bad? More to come when I finish more of the story.

Bad Twin is considered a work of fiction but it contains names and references that are revealed in the show itself (like Widmore and the Hanso Foundation). The connection between the novel and the T.V. show is not immediately apparent but the book's publication date coincided with the Lost Experience game and the publication of the "spin" article in local newspapers on the 9th of May suggests to me an "in-game" relationship.

I have been reading this novel and the main character, Paul Artisan, has dealings with members of the Widmore family. He also inadvertently walked into the Hanso Foundation on the 42nd floor of the Widmore building when he was looking for Cliff Widmore's office, which was on the 47th floor of the same building. Everyone was wearing white or light light-green lab coats...

The Hanso Foundation Homepage was updated today. The following press release was posted:

Clicking on the colored word "here" on the Hanso Foundation home page brings you to a new page which resides here:

If you follow the tree down to the parent directory you'll see that this resides in a folder entitled "Paris" and that there is an empty folder entitled "London." I can only assume that this is for newsletters to be released in the future.

So, it would seem that "Bad Twin" is much more important than most people realized. Note that the date on this is in European format (day/month/year). The actual press release is the same that was posted in the newspapers on May 9th, 2006.

“Bad Twin” by Gary Troup – A Review

Bad Twin is a murder mystery in which, hmmm, the murder doesn’t take place until the last 15 pages of the book. Ok, this book is not a typical mystery novel. In fact, it is a novelty novel, if I can say those two words together. This book is a teaser developed as a tie-in to ABC’s series Lost. The book contains references to characters and individuals in the series and has been linked to the Alternate Reality Game, The Lost Experience.

This book is actually quite well written and also entertaining. I would say it is better than average and in my estimation is a very good read. However, as an avid LOST fan I poured over it twice hoping to find some clue that might help further my advancement in the game. Unfortunately, all I’ve really accomplished was to collect a huge amount of information that may (or may not) somehow tie into the game. This book, as stated previously, is fictional, as is its author. Gary Troup is himself a fictional character and is believed to have been lost when Oceanic Flight 815 crashed into the ocean in 2004.

So, who wrote “Bad Twin”? This book has been linked to the following authors; Ridley Pearson, Paul Auster, Jillian Strauss, Stephen king and James Patterson. Who really wrote it? No one seems to know. If I had to guess I’d say Patterson. It seems his style and he is one of the most prolific (not enough blood and guts for King.)

The Lost numbers appear throughout the book: Gary Troup’s address is 481 West 68th Street (4, 8, 16, 8), the missing twin had gone off before for 4 months and 8 months when Artisan was hired to find him and he had been gone since April 15th (4, 15). Artisan lives in a 4th floor walkup on 84th Street and he’s 42 years old. Walkabout Publishing is located at 4200 Queen Street in Sidney, New South Wales, Australia, 2316 (42, 23, 16).
The Hanso Foundation’s New York office is located on the 42 floor of the Widmore building. The letter from Christine DeVries is dated August 16th (8, 16) and the return letter from Gary Troup is dated August 23rd (8, 23). Paul Artisan meets Manny Weissman at 6:15pm (6, 15). There are many other instances of the numbers appearances in the book. I did go over the number pages to see if anything significant (in the way of hidden clues) could be seen but found nothing of interest. There could, of course, be many clues buried inside the book and the number of instances that it get referenced in the game makes it seem very important to me.

You can read many reviews which flesh out the plot and story so I won’t go into that here in detail. But I will add a host of ideas and information which I have gleaned from the pages of the book. They are organized in the following manner: 1. The cast of characters (in the order in which they appear in the book), 2. A list of places and businesses described in the book, 3. Listening to the podcast we hear the following at about the halfway mark:

“… Try this on for size. Alvar Hanso. Yeah! Conspiraspies, it’s yet another story accounting for the whereabouts of your favorite arms dealer turned mad scientist. We’ve heard it all. Hanso’s a figurehead. Your proverbial Mr. Cluck. He's floating in orbit, a VIP guest, on the MIR space station and so on but this one it comes from inside the organization. According to my source old Alvar is in the deep freeze in the Hanso Foundation’s lab near Phoenix, Arizona. Now this makes sense. This explains why the guy hasn’t been spotted in years. Now, I’m gonna get serious. We like to have our fun but when it comes to the Hanso Foundation consider this the Brussels sprouts portion of the DJ Dan nutritious meal folks. Now, if you know my show you know that if the Hanso Foundation is doing something, it is not good! Sure they want you to believe they’re saving humanity with their top-secret science projects but we’re smarter than that. And thanks to the hacker Persephone we now have proof. We all know what’s going on, don’t we? Frozen or cooked I don’t want you thinking for one second that Alvar Hanso and his cronies are any less dangerous. Anyway, as you can see these cryogenics people get me. These Hanso Foundation and their ilk prey on the weak and the sick and I want you to shut it down. So my suggestion to you… stay warm dear conspiraspy, drink a cup of cocoa and for goodness sakes don’t freeze your head. That’s all we’ve got.”

Tanya = Persephone? Does anyone else think that Tanya sounds like Persephone? Dave Conley does and I agree. We have the following recordings of Persephone and Tanya:
1. The Call Center where Persephone gives her "breaking strain" clue
2. In the Alvar Hanso messages where she asks "Where is Alvar Hanso?"
3. And also from the website when she asks "Who is in charge here?"
4. And then Tanya from DJ Dan. recordings from 5/16 and 5/26

There are very close similarities and the voices are very close in tone, pitch and accent.
